The Reason I am Interested in Interior Design
As an interior designer, I want to excel at applying design elements into everyday living, making spaces more efficient, functional, and different from the norm. I want to customize and create spaces that best our partners needs. I plan to learn new ways of creating well-organized spaces and new components that best suit them, and gain knowledge on ways to make a space visually appealing, and functional. My personal interests when it comes to designing spaces are medium to large commercial. I enjoy creating well-organized setups with a smooth flow, while maintaining a consistent theme. I like traditional styles and adding more modern, updated elements. I find open layouts most comfortable and functional. I enjoy warm tones, and the addition of colourful details, and patterns. I appreciate the use of dark natural woodwork, and creating naturally lit spaces.
Through my research, I have learned about the credentials necessary to pursue interior design practice. I believe that the Association of Registration Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO) holds the standards for qualified interior designers in Ontario. Interior Designers of Canada (IDC) advocates to the government for interior designers in Canada so designers are able to commit to delivering high-quality services and products, while supporting all members throughout their careers. National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) determines an individual's competence as an interior designer. It demonstrates the industry's standards so interior designers are able to work safely in Canada.
Designers who I'm inspired by include Joanna Gaines, I like her modern farmhouse style. Her use of neutral colour pallets, natural materials, and mix of vintage and modern elements create timeless spaces. She excels at creating a warm environment while keeping them elevated and organized. I also enjoy Malissa LeClair's designs, which are clean-lined, and modern with traditional elements. She makes spaces feel warm and inviting, while using minimalist colours and materials. Gaudi's work is absolutely inspiring, and very creative. His attention to detail is fascinating, and fairly abnormal. His work with shapes and form give his designs a fairy-tale-like appeal. I'm inspired by his untraditional designs and his courage and ability to explore outside of everyday standards.
Interior design extends far beyond aesthetic selection. A professional with a bachelors in interior design is trained in spatial planning, structural considerations, building systems, materials, lighting, and building codes. Degreed interior designers are involved in important decisions that affect how a space functions, flow, and feeling. They collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors, and interior decorators to make sure spaces are safe, accessible, efficient, meet regulations and are beautiful. Their role combines technical knowledge with creative problem-solving to shape a space at both a practical and visual level.
